From April to October, the Romantic Road buses will connect the Romantic Road, Germany’s most famous and popular holiday route, with the international gateways of Frankfurt am Main and Munich. As there are no direct rail links, and only a few towns and villages can be reached by train, the bus with its ‘hop on – hop off’ concept, which is tried and tested across the world, offers the ideal way of organising one's own individual voyage of discovery along the Romantic Road.
Daily from 10 April to 17 October 2017 the bus departs at 8 a.m. from Frankfurt and Füssen, and 10.30 a.m. from Munich and, according to the direction travelled, it first passes by the Prince Bishops’ Residence in Würzburg, goes along past the vineyards in the Tauber Valley, to Bad Mergentheim, Weikersheim and Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
There is a break for lunch in the mediaeval town of Dinkelsbühl, followed by stops in Nördlingen and Augsburg before arriving in the Bavarian State Capital, Munich. From here, it carries on towards the world famous royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau with a photo stop at the Wieskirche church, which is one of UNESCO’s world heritage sites on the Romantic Road, together with the ‘Limes’ near to Dinkelsbühl and the former Prince Bishops’ Residence in Würzburg.
Tickets can be reserved and paid for on the internet at
ROMANTIC ROAD COACH
travellers can take as many breaks in the journey as they wish and tickets are valid for 6 months. If requested, the Romantic Road sales office will also plan an individual trip with the bus, including both the journey and accommodation in the desired category, a programme of visits and any other wishes the customer may have.
For active holidaymakers, there are also special cycling and hiking packages available, where luggage is transported and an emergency number supplied in case of problems.

Audio guides for the Romantic Road buses
A journey along Germany’s most popular tourist route is characterised by extensive vineyards, picturesque valleys and imposing buildings. Passengers on scheduled bus services along the Romantic Road can benefit from free audio guides that provide supplementary background information about the attractive views.
The off speaker
On payment of a deposit, passengers are given a handy device. To avoid complicated operation, the audio guides are equipped with GPS receivers so that information about the region or certain buildings en route is automatically played via the headphones when given points are reached. Thus, travellers can be sure of not missing any highlights and, because foreign tourists also use the Romantic Road buses, the information is available in seven different languages – in addition to German and English, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish.
Mobile and flexible
The audio guides supplement the Romantic Road app perfectly. Passengers can relax while listening to the information about the towns and sights as they pass and have the chance to read further details on their smartphone. Moreover, if they particularly like a location, they can call up a map on the app and plan a spontaneous hike.
About the Romantic Road
From Würzburg to Füssen – from the River Main to the Alps – the Romantic Road covers over 400 fascinating kilometres and is a magnet for holiday makers. The Romantic Road long-distance cycle route was opened in 1988 and the long-distance hiking route in 2006, whereby the emphasis of the 28 towns and villages along the route is and always has been on getting away from it all with the focus on art, culture and the culinary arts.
