A Road like a Dream
The Romantic Road, a ribbon almost 400 kilometres long, links magnificent landscapes and beautiful historical towns, where time almost seems to have come to a standstill. The road skirts delightful valleys, winds itself up to heights with splendid panoramic views and follows meandering streams and rivers.
But there is romance, not only in the impressive panoramas, but often in the small details. Whether it is boulders by the wayside, statues of saints adorning bridges or the floral displays on the window sills of half-timbered houses, wherever they go visitors will be captivated by the enchanting, romantic atmosphere that is so very much a part of this road.
And the people certainly know how to live, something that visitors can see and feel at the colourful weekly markets and fairs, in the historical inns and beer gardens or at the wonderful town festivals and village fairs.
It is almost impossible to capture the charm of this road in words. It can only really be experienced by travelling the road oneself. Be it on foot, by bicycle or by car – each form of travel provides its own fascinating impressions and experiences.
